About the event
The Outsiders takes students on an adventure through the 1960s as three orphaned boys try to make their way in the world. Inspired by real-world events, this novel is great at catching (and holding!) student interest, making it a great story to teach analytical and comprehension tools that students can continue to apply long after the workshop is over.
Novel Studies: Reading for Meaning and Context is a virtual group designed to assist students with the building of strategies needed to increase proficiency with English Language Arts. This group is designed specifically for junior high and high school students who may need extra support and scaffolding for reading comprehension. Students will be reading high interest novels that have been specifically selected to be engaging, have strong themes, and relevant to today’s times, and will be guided through increasing their analytical and comprehension skills. In each session the students will have the opportunity to practice reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. Assessments will be embedded throughout the instruction allowing the students a comfortable space to practice and build individual strategies without the stress of being in a formal testing environment.
The Workshop meets virtually on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Time is TBA.
This workshop is $214. A rental copy of the book is included.
Small groups must have a minimum of 3 students to run. Submitting this form holds a spot for your student, but does not automatically bill you. Please note that this is an interest form ONLY! An interest form must be submitted for each student, and a staff member will follow up with you afterward. Students are not enrolled in a course until payment or a voucher/PO is recieved.
